Your Questions About Professional Ice Cream Maker

Ken asks…

*CALLING ALL PROFESSIONAL CAKE MAKERS!* Does duncan hines fudge marble cake sound okay with buttercream icing?

I was going to go to a cake supply store, but the ones in my city don’t have cake mixes. I figured I’d go to the grocery store for that. My question is, does marble cake (duncan hines) sound okay with butter cream icing (from cake supply store)??? Or should I just get chocolate? It’s for a baby shower cake, and duncan hines cake is good, but the icing is too hard to work with for what I am trying to do. I was hoping to accomplish a two tier cake with butter cream icing and fondant accents. I just don’t know if marble cake is going to taste good with butter cream icing.

What do you think?

Thanks!
I forgot to add.. I have two and a half weeks before the shower… so I could always test it out and see.

Thanks!

admin answers:

If you’re wanting an honest opinion [i'm assuming thats why you came here] I’ll be honest:

Most of your rhymes are pretty basic, skater/hater/crater, stinger/linger/bringer/finger

You need to break it down, your metaphors are pretty decent. If you’re going to use cheap rhymes at least make them multis, here’s something I just came up with:

“Without a sound, the beeps now getting loud I can’t come around,
I feel profound when the alarm sounds, it’s seven am I in heaven”

If it flows, it flows. And some of your rhymes are forced, second. I don’t mean to sound like an old-timer, but some of the GREATEST songs are story-telling raps. I’ve wrote a few of them, it’s way better to listen to. Try telling a story, and don’t try so hard to force your rhymes, jus let em come as they go you know?

I hope this helps!

Your Questions About Professional Ice Cream Maker

Lizzie asks…

would you ever bother making your own ice cream? (with an ice cream machine of course!)?

I remember coming across a recipe book in Borders produced by Ben & Jerry’s and thought it would be nice to make your own ice cream that is like Ben & Jerry’s! Thing is, I’m a bit skeptical. Is it really possible to produce very good quality, creamy, tasty ice cream by yourself using an ice cream maker? Or is it always never going to match up to the professional stuff? I had a breadmaking machine for over 2 years now, and have tried different recipes with it, but the bread it churns out is never as good as the real thing (I like Burgens bread and Warburton’s)

And if you’re really happy making your own ice cream with an ice cream machine, would you recommend a particular model of machine, or would any ice cream machine sold in big stores like Argos or Amazon do the same trick?
Savannah > the trouble is, I’ve never ever seen Ben & Jerry’s ice cream on offer. I shop regularly at Asda and Tesco.

admin answers:

Ice cream machines are cheap and can be bought on Ebay or Amazon. Most of the brands on here are “good” ones. And yes I make homemade ice cream on a regular basis. They joy is that you can have any flavor you want……..add alittle bit of jalapeno juice to some and watch it enhance the flavor of the chocolate or cinnamon. Your ice cream world is endless when you make your own. The youngest one enjoy peanut butter in his!!! Add a bit of jelly to it and he will behave all day waiting for his treat!!

Laura asks…

Thoughts on attachments to Kitchen Aid Professional Plus 5 qt. stand mixer.?

I am giddy over this mixer, which I just ordered. Has anyone used any of the optional attachments such as the juicer, pasta maker, ice cream maker, etc. and what do you think of the mixer and attachment?

admin answers:

The Pro Plus will do the job with the attachments but I give it a thumbs down for the grinding attch. The motor labors at 325 watts, I traded up to the 600 model, there’s nothing like having the juice when you need it. Pro Plus IS a great machine, don’t get me wrong, but then again I use a sledge hammer to put in a tack

Steven asks…

questions about kitchen equipment to all chefs out there?

i’m planning to buy a mini oven for home use. something big enough to roast a chicken/goose and under 100 USD.

also, an ice cream maker for under 100 USD.

lastly, a really good professional chef’s knife set with spatulas, scrapers, fish scalers, peelers, etc.. something i could use for life since i’m a culinary arts student. price doesn’t matter.

any recommendations for these items? please give feedback about the product also. any(even if you can only speak for one of these items) help will be very much appreciated. thanks.

admin answers:

If you are a culinary arts student, spend the money on good knives but do not wast your money on a sub $100 ice cream maker. There are many good knives. Henkel, Sabatier, Wusthof are all decent. Whatever you get, make sure it is high carbon stainless steel with a full tang. And make sure it is well balanced to your hand. I own both Sabatier and Henkel and are happy with both.

Knives are very expensive. I spend about $80 each on two chefs knives. And another couple of hundred on a filet knife, carving knife, boning knife and 2 paring knives.

Getting back to the ice cream maker, I recommend one with a freezing unit. I own one of the cheapest (cuisinart) but it has lasted me 3 years so far with great results. Mine ran about $300. Makes ice cream in about 20 minutes and can make several batches in a row. The best machines in this category run $700 and up, so I really consider my cuisinart quite a deal.
